Try It Out Tuesday #12--Movie Night!!

Hello & welcome to "Try It Out Tuesday #12"!! I have challenged Susana's DT to create gift sets using products from the store--so fun! If you'd like to join in just upload your projects to SCS using the keyword "tiot" and then link it to this post!

I based my entire gift set around Lockhart's stamp "At the Movies" and made a fun gift set! My set includes (2) Popcorn containers, (1) gift card holder, (1) bundle of Pixie Stix, (2) wrapped packs of microwave popcorn and (1) container of M&M's! The dp is by Bo Bunny!

This would be such a fun gift to give--just add a gift card for movie tix or video rental & you're done!
Close up of this fun stamp by Lockhart "At the Movies"! I added Liquid Applique to the popcorn for a fun puffed look & added yellow copic to make it "buttered"! I made my drink a COKE and put diamond glaze on top! Layered all of my images with Circle Nestabilities.

Front view of the gift card holder--for directions to make this please visit my blog today. Super easy & quick to put together!

Inside view of the gift card holder that ties close with ribbon. I used the same stamp on the inside in white & red inks! You can visit my blog today for more pictures and information on my project!

TIOT #12 ~ Fairy Gift Set

The DT challenge this week at Susana's was to make a gift set, one card and two gifts using stamps and supply from Susana's Custom Art & Card Design. I made a small gift bag and a bookmark in addition to the card, all with wonderful stamp images by Faerie Song Art Stamps from Susana's. I put Shimmerz on the fairy's wings, and used Kaisercraft Rhinestones in most of the corners on my projects. Colored images with Prismacolor pencils. The sentiment stamp on the card is by Hero Arts. Used Spellbinder Nestabilites, Cuttlebug dies and embossing folder and QK Rev die. Flowers by Prima.

Try It Out Tuesday #12 - Take Time to Smell The Coffee!!

ETA: Susana has very kindly asked me to stay on as a Guest Designer for her store through April, and I've VERY HAPPILY ACCEPTED! Thanks, Susana, and SCACD DT for putting up with me for another month!! I look forward to more fun and laughs!!

Sadly, this is my last post as a Guest Designer for Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design. It's been a fun ride, for sure!! The ladies on the DT are amazingly talented women - hopefully I've absorbed some of their incredible talent while hanging out with them. Thank you Susana, Suzanne, and the rest of the DT for all your patience, kind words, and laughs over the last month!! I've enjoyed every minute of my time with you.

My final Try It Out Tuesday challenge was to create a card with two coordinating gifts. Fun, huh?!! Well, I love trolling the aisles at JoAnn Fabrics. They always have the most fun crap, man!! I ran across this darling little travel coffee tumbler in the Value Bins ($2.50!!) and knew just what I was going to make for my gift set.
I pried open the tumbler and created an insert from some Nana's Kitchen DP that I had picked up at Mike's a while back. I loved the colors and the bling that was already built in. And it had those cute little coffee cups on it - PERFECT!! Here's the fun thing about it though - see that cute little coffee scoop hanging from the ribbon? That image is a stamp I picked up at a little Stamp Convention a few weeks back. I stamped it onto Shrinky Dink with Timber Brown Staz-On. Then I cut it out with my scissors, punched a hole in the handle, and took my heat set gun to it. It shriveled up into a little ball, and then finally laid flat. Have you ever used that stuff?!! It is a HOOT!! I attached it to the ribbon with Karen Foster Scrapper’s Floss. Next I added some of the same DP to a coffee bag that I had picked up at JoAnn's when I found the tumbler. I used my Oval Classic & Scalloped Nesties to reveal the window. I used my Rectangle Classic & Scalloped Nesties to create a cute little coordinating topper. I stamped some coffee beans on the pink CS, and then stamped and cut out my all time favorite Lockhart Itty Bitty Hot Chocolate. I colored it with my Copics, added some Liquid Applique and some Dazzling Diamonds, then heated up the Liquid Applique with my Heat Gun to make it look like foam on my Cappucino. I added some little Prima Sprites that I had in my stash, blinging the pink one up with some Shimmerz Blingz Pixie Dust, adding a button, and tying that with my favorite Karen Foster Scrapper’s Floss. I filled it up with some Starbuck's coffee beans - BONUS!! I didn't want it to fall apart, so I used Scor-Tape to adhere all the pieces together. Love that stuff!!

The last piece of my little set was the gift card holder. I made a Fold-over Flap Card that I found the tutorial for on Cammie's blog. But I altered it a little bit on the inside to add a pocket for a Starbuck's Gift Card. Same DP, same Itty Bitty; I used my Circle Classic & Scalloped Nesties and my Square Classic & Scalloped Nesties to create the fold-over flap, same ribbon, and VOILA!! I'm not sure who I'll give this little set to, but it's ready and rarin' to go!!

CARD RECIPE:

Try It Out Tuesday #12 - Fun In the Sun

This is going to be quick until tomorrow morning. Suzanne, our super talented Design Team Leader for gave us the challenge of creating a carSusana's Custom Art and Card Design (SCACD), d and a gift set. The first thing that popped into my mind was a candle and bookmark! We've lost power here twice for a significant amount of time and so I thought it would be great to receive a candle and book mark and a great book. That way I've a bit of warmth, light and entertainment!

I picked out Daphne in her Floaty Bear from Eat Cake Graphics from Susana's shop and she just yelled to be put to paper! I colored her with copics, cut her out using my nestabilities and used Glossy Accents to make the floatie look like plastic and stickles for the water. The Retro paper from Dovecraft is perfect for this cutie!

I thought I'd snaz up a plastic container that holds Crystal Light Packets because it's the best thing in the world to drink on a hot day! I accented the top with a few Bella Baubles and ran some ribbon around the side. As for the book mark, I glued Daphne to a coated paper clip. Nothing like a good book and cold drink on a hot day. I'm reading the Harry Potter series right now, but I can feel a few romances coming on! Sorry these last two pictures are so blurry. I'll try and retake them tomorrow after I get new batteries.

Make sure you stop by our Follow Your Heart blog and take a look at all my other Design Team Buddies projects. I just know they'll be fabulous! And I'd like to say "Good-bye", to Lynn who's been so fun to work with this past month and welcome Karolyn who has decided to stay a month longer with us! Lynn, it's been so great creating with you!

Card Ingredients:

Daphne in her Floaty Bear by Eat Cake Graphics, Stickles, Copics, Nestabilities, Bella Baubles, Retro Paper Pack from Dovecraft.

Easter gift-set

This weeks challenge is to prepare a gift set. I decided to prepare an Easter gift-set -since the holiday is almost around the corner.

For my card I decided to colour the
Buttermilk Hen with my copics and then create a card 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" with my soft blue cardstock and the DPs from Laura Ashley.
I used my sandblock on the DP edges.
I then found an old mini-basket to put my gift in - being eggs and hens for decoration of a sprig of (birch) twigs. I added some matching ribbon from SU. After that I altered a match box with the same set of DPs and then used my SU punches to cut out the image - Violet Cupcake with. The image is also coloured in matching colours with the DP with my copics. Added a Bella Bauble to the center of the DP flower.Flowers is always a must when it's time for gifts - so I decided to use this tall vase that is perfect for one single flower. (It's sooo tall - and that's why the first picture in this post is a little bit blurry - sorry for that)

I added a "tag" on the vase/flower. This "tag" can also hold some small items - like a piece of chocolate. However - I needed something to go with the matches and then the incense (that my sister-in-law purchased in India) was just perfect. I picked the one's that had the matching colours - of course ;-))

Julia with flowers had to be on this tag with the matching DPs. I wanted to colour her with a more "Laura Ingalls"-style - if you know what I mean. The different warm greys does not really show here, but.....
Well - now it's your time to be creative - so please share your gift-set ideas with us and upload them on SCS or PCP with the keyword "TIOT12".

Try It Out Tuesday #12 - An Enchanted Gift Set

Hello Everyone and Happy Tuesday :) It's another Try It Out Tuesday Challenge here at Susana's Store Blog. Our challenge this week was to create a gift set containing one card and two other gift items. I decided to make a little gift set for my niece.

I decided to use This Castle and Natasha for the main images on my card. I stamped the castle three times for added dimension, colored the images with copics, and adhered them to the image panel with lots of dimensionals (if you would like to see my tutorial on how to create this scene, click HERE). I next created my card base, which measures 5 1/2 by 5 1/2, out of SU's Pretty in Pink. I layered Perfect Plum on top of that followed by my design paper from DCWV's Once Upon a Time stack. I added a pink ribbon, and then I adhered my image panel with dimensionals. I added my sentiment (which is from Studio G) and Primas and pearls.

Next, using a technique I found HERE, I made my bookmark and slid it right under the image panel on the front of the card. I used Mini Natasha as my main image on my bookmark. I colored her with copics and cut her out with my circle Nestabilities. I added purple glitter to her wings using my Sakura glitter pen. The sentiment is from Stamping Bella.

Finally, I made a little boxy bag, which I filled with candy. I again used Mini Natasha as my main image. The sentiment is from a new Studio G set.

What do you think? I hope my niece likes it, I think this would make a darling set for any little princess :) Thanks so much for stopping by. Make sure to scroll down to see the other amazing creations from the rest of the DT. I'll see you back here tomorrow with another project.

Lots of Hugs, Christine :)

Try It Out Tuesday #12~ Butterfly Gifts

This week's challenge was Gift Day! We were to create a card and two gifts with stamps and supplies from Susana's store.
I think I made this much harder than it needed to be. I thought and thought and agonized over this. Even told Susana and Suzanne I didn't think I'd participate this week but then I realized I was being silly and sat down and this is what I came up with.
On the card I cut out the teeny butterfly and popped it up on a little pop dot.
On the bookmark I used the Crinkled Chalk Technique.

TIOT12 - A Gift or Two for YOU!

Today is my last post as a Guest Design Team Member and it's been fun completing the projects and such a joy getting to know all the incredibly creative ladies on the Design Team.  Susana, owner of Susana's Creative Art & Card Design has been such an inspiring and motivating guide in my GDT journey.  Thanks Susana for having me!

Today's challenge was to create a gift set...I chose to make a note pad holder and pen set.  Using my note pad as my guide I cut my base cardstock a little larger than my pad and scored it in the center allowing for the pad to easily fit within the base.  I then just added some designer paper, ribbons and embellishments.  To created the space for the pen holder, I cut a slip piece of chipboard and sandwiched it between the cardstock base.  The chipboard gave the pen "ledge" a stable place to rest.

To create the pen, all I did was take an RSVP pen, and dumped coordinating glitter into the barrel. To complete the gift set I made a coordinating card to give along with the notepad/pen project.

Thanks for looking in today!
{Supplies}
Stamps:  Rosebud Cupcake (Karen Lockhart)
Papers: White Textured Cardstock (SU!), Dovecraft Hint of Pink Patterned Paper Pink Cardstock from stash
Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Copic Markers, Foam Tape, Petal Crystals (SCACD), Small Scallops and Small Square Nestabilities, Metallic Dewdrops, Glitter, RSVP Pen, Scallop Border Punch, Ribbon from stash

Crinkled Chalk~ Danni Style

I was actually excited to do this tutorial today....quite a difference from the ACK of the first tutorial I did. LOL! I think I was excited because I {heart} this technique, although I don't do it often it's still a favorite.
I first discovered this technique in a challenge for a yahoo group and found the original directions on SCS. This is just my "version" of that technique.
For this technique you'll need the following supplies:

  • cling wrap/saran wrap
  • 3 colors of ink pads--chalk inks work best but you can use any. Make sure the colors work together.
  • piece of white cardstock (you can experiment with other colors too, I just like the white)
To begin with you need to either tear or cut the cling wrap into three pieces.

Next, take each piece and wad it up into a loose ball.

Then use one of the "balls" to go directly onto the ink pad of the first color. I usually start with the darker color first. In this case I used VersaMagic chalk ink. You just sort of dab it onto the cling wrap ball.

Next randomly "stamp" the cling ball on the paper. You can add more ink as you need it, it's totally up to you as to the effect you want. Be sure to leave space for the other two colors.

You do this process with the other two colors of ink.

And that's it! You can use this as your background or stamp directly on it....from this point you just finish you card. Fun, fun!!

Here's some examples of this technique on finished cards.

This uses the chalk inks in the example above. I also used the following supplies: Daphne on her floatie bear, nestabilities, bella baubles, Blue Moon Small Heart charm, copics, ribbon

On this card I used Palette inks and it worked wonderfully, so don't be afraid to experiment. I also used the following supplies: Would you be my friend, metallic dew drops, Iced Lavender Shimmerz , grape stickles, copics,

On this last example I myself was experimenting. I have always done this technique with pastel colors so I thought I'd try some browns, neutrals. I love the way it turned out. Some of the darker brown actually looks a bit like leather. This was done with the chalk inks as well. Other supplies used are: Carrie, bella baubles, celery shimmerz, copics,

Thanks for checking out my tutorial! Hope that you'll give this a try!
I'd love to see your creations trying this technique! Just leave a comment with a link to your creation!!

Try It Out Tuesday #11---Skater Boy!!

Hello & Happy Tuesday! Today is "Try It Out Tuesday" and I've challenged both the DT & you to create a 2+2 card! Two layers (not including the base) and two embellishments (and an Anki's Sweetheart stamp if ya have 'em)! If you'd like to join in on this challenge you can upload your cards to SCS using keyword "tiot" and linking here on this post so we can see :o)

For my card today I've used the Anki's Sweetheart stamp "Isac with Skateboard"--isn't he a cutie pop! Boy images are so hard to come by & I just love this one!

I did not cheat, hee hee--my image was cut out & glued to the red embossed cs along with the sentiment & twill ribbons, making one layer. The 2nd layer is fun dp from Basic Grey's "Cupcake" stack. My two embellishments are my twill ribbon and Smooch paint on the red accents in my image and silver Smooch on the skateboard wheels!

Make sure and scroll down to see the rest of the DT's fun projects today!!

hugz,

Suzanne Dean

TIOT #11 ♥ Emilia with Heart

The DT challenge on this week's TIOT was to make a card using an 'Anki's Sweetheart' stamp and with limited supplies 2 + 2 (only 2 layers & 2 embellishments). To use only two layers isn't hard for me to do, it's often the way I do it on my cards, but to limit the number of embellies to only two, is very hard...

I chose to use a DP with a very decorative pattern to "weight up" for the limited number of embellies, (not that I don't like Clean and Simple cards, they're both beautiful and elegant, it's just my habbit to put loads of embellishments on the cards...) What I used here is from a Dovecraft and Laura Ashley Fantasy 8 X 8 Paper pack from Susana's store. I used the beautiful Emilia with Heart from Anki's Sweethearts for Susana's Custom Art & Card Design, colored her with Prismacolor pencils and cut her out. The circle sentiment is by Aud Design, both image and sentiment are on pop dots. The two ebellishments I used are a key charm and a piece of yellow lace.

Spring is here

or at least it was here this weekend. It's so funny every year - as soon as the sun pops up - well then you suddenly see your neighbours again ;-)) Out in the garden, burning leaves, planting seeds etc...hihi....... I guess it's the same everywhere and not only in Sweden.

Well - the Spring feelings this weekend gave me the inspiration to use Cathrine with butterfly for this weeks Try it Out Tuesday.

Our project/card should only be made with 2 layers and 2 embellies. That's a very hard challenge for someone like me - that has gone from - only a very limeted numbers of layers and embellies to - well a lot just in 1.5 year ;-))

I was so pleased that I had the lovely DP from the Dovecraft Fantasy pack to create the scene with. They are perfect for projects like this. For the second layer (behind Cathrine) - there I used one of the papers from my "left-over-collection"...hihi.....

I coloured Cathrine with my copics (please don't forget to check out the copic bundles that are available at Susana's). I added some stickles to the flowers on her dress, on her shoes and for the ribbon.

I then added vanilla ribbon (from SU) and one single flower from my stash. There you have it - my 2 embellies :-))

Looking fwd to read your comments and see what you will come up with. Please remember to use the keyword "TIOT11" when you upload your cards on PCP or SCS.

Try It Out Tuesday #11 - Just a Note

Hello everyone and Happy Tuesday :) It's Tuesday so that means another Try it Out Tuesday challenge here at Susana's Store Blog. Our challenge this week was to create a card using a new Anki's Sweetheart image, two layers, and two embellies. I chose the adorable Julia With Purse as my main image. I think she's just adorable :) I inked her with Memento black ink, stamped her onto PTI cardstock, and colored her with copics. I added stickles to her purse and outfit, and I added glitter from my Gold Copic Glitter Pen to her belt. I used my Large Circle Nestabilities and my scalloped circle nesties to cut out my image and my cardstock.

All of my cardstock is by SU (Pretty in Pink and Certainly Celery). My design paper is from Debbie Mumm's Little Girl stack. My two embellies were ribbon and a Prima flower (I sort of cheated and also added a pearl to the center of the Prima :) ). The sentiment is from Hot Off the Press (the set is called Tiny Words and is a wonderful, versatile set). I used my SU Word Window Punch to punch out the sentiment.

I'd love to hear what you think of my card. Make sure to scroll down to see the other wonderful creations from the rest of Susana's Design Team. We'd also love it if you'd like to join in on these challenges. If you do join in and upload your work on SCS and/or PCP, make sure to put "tiot11" in the key words section so we can all see. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hugs, Christine :)
